Investigation into Antisemitism in University of California Camps Begins

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched an investigation into allegations of antisemitism in the University of California camps to determine whether the university allowed the creation of a "hostile environment against Jews" during last year's protests. U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated, "This Department of Justice defends American Jews, protects civil rights, and will eradicate institutionalized antisemitism in American universities." Stet Halbrook, a spokesperson for the University of California, responded to the investigation by stating that the institution is aware of the inquiry and is "unwavering in its commitment to combating antisemitism and supporting civil rights." Last spring, a number of Hamas supporters protested in support of Palestinians in Gaza and against the Israel-Hamas war at the University of California campuses in Los Angeles and Berkeley. Reports of harassment of Jews by protesters and preventing their attendance in classrooms sparked public outrage. Donald Trump, who had promised to combat antisemitism in America during his campaign, warned after returning to the White House about the support of students and professors at American universities for extremist groups and hate speech on campuses. The U.S. President recently wrote on the social media platform Truth: "All federal funding for colleges, schools, and universities that allow illegal protests will be cut off. Rioters will be imprisoned or sent back to the country they came from. American students will either be expelled permanently or detained based on their crimes. Masks are banned."
