Iran-Aligned Militias Claim Responsibility for Attack on Israeli Port City of Eilat

The coalition known as the 'Islamic Resistance in Iraq,' which is supported by Iran, claimed responsibility on Wednesday for the attack on the port city of Eilat in southern Israel. In a statement, the coalition said that in response to the Gaza war and the killing of Palestinian civilians, including women and children, it targeted a 'key objective' in the port of Eilat using its drones on Wednesday morning. While the 'Islamic Resistance in Iraq' described the attack as successful, the Israeli army reported that a drone had fallen off the coast of Eilat on Wednesday. According to the Israeli army's statement, the drone was unable to enter Israeli territory and was tracked by Israeli soldiers until the moment of its fall. The statement indicated that a defense missile was fired at the mentioned drone. The 'Islamic Resistance in Iraq' is allied with the Houthi rebels in Yemen and has recently announced joint operations with them. The Houthis have previously targeted the port of Eilat with their drone and missile attacks. The Houthis have stated that their attacks will continue until the end of the Gaza war, which has severely reduced shipping traffic through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, a vital waterway for markets in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Reports indicate that the Houthis targeted a ship in the Gulf of Aden in the early hours of Wednesday. According to the British Maritime Trade Operations organization, this attack occurred off the coast of Aden. The organization's statement noted that the captain of a commercial vessel reported a missile landing near the ship in the sea. According to this report, the crew of the ship was unharmed in this attack, and the ship continued on its course. The Houthi rebels have targeted more than 60 vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden with their missile and drone attacks.
