Iran Calls for 'Complete Vigilance' from Kim Jong Un in Negotiations with Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump acted on his electoral promise on May 8 and withdrew from the international nuclear agreement with Iran, calling the JCPOA 'the worst deal ever' that benefits Iran and not the U.S. With the U.S. exit from the JCPOA and the re-imposition of extraterritorial sanctions, the fate of this agreement remains uncertain. In his press conference, Bahram Qasemi stated, 'Given the history and behavior of the U.S., especially from Mr. Trump, who has taken actions based on obstruction, withdrawal from agreements, and violation of commitments, particularly regarding the JCPOA, we do not have an optimistic view of this issue and believe that the Korean government should approach this matter with complete vigilance.' Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un are scheduled to meet on Tuesday, June 12, in Singapore. This meeting was previously canceled due to verbal tensions between the two countries, but both sides agreed to hold this unprecedented meeting after moderating their tones. Trump and Kim will meet while Washington's position is complete nuclear disarmament of North Korea, but Pyongyang has stated that it will not accept unilateral disarmament. Meanwhile, the White House announced on Monday that Trump will leave Singapore for the U.S. on Tuesday evening, a day earlier than previously planned. According to the White House, the meeting between the two leaders will take place at 9 a.m. local time.
