Iran Condemns Beheading of French Priest and Syrian Child

Iran reacted to the beheading of a French priest and a Syrian child, condemning the acts strongly. Bahram Qasemi, the spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, stated on Thursday, August 7, that "we are equally saddened and grieved by these inhumane, barbaric, and hateful acts alongside all awakened consciences of humanity." He referred to the killing of the French priest and the Syrian child as 'polytheistic' actions and claimed that 'the root of all these crimes is inspired by a deviant and degenerate ideology produced by the fathers of ISIS and Al-Qaeda.' ISIS, also known as the 'Islamic State,' claimed responsibility for the beheading of the French priest in Normandy, France. This incident occurred on Monday when two armed men attacked a church in northern France, taking the priest and two nuns hostage, resulting in the death of the 84-year-old priest. The attackers were ultimately killed by French security forces. Recently, reports have also emerged about the killing of a Syrian child, which has drawn global reactions. The accused in this incident are members of the 'Nur al-Din al-Zenki Movement,' which has previously been considered a 'moderate' group opposing Bashar al-Assad's regime. This group has stated that it will investigate the incident and punish those responsible. Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that 'the indifference to the pains and sufferings of the displaced and helpless people in some regional countries and the interference of the masters and supporters of ISIS and Al-Qaeda' has led to violence and terror 'spreading like a chronic plague everywhere.' He emphasized that 'the world must unite in the fight against terrorism' and that there should be a 'real and serious' global effort against terrorism.
