Iran Human Rights Organization: Execution of Three Prisoners in Shiraz Central Prison

The Iran Human Rights Organization announced that on the morning of Monday, October 23, the death sentences of three prisoners were carried out in Shiraz Central Prison. According to this organization, the three prisoners; Asghar Jafari, approximately 40 years old, Majid Mousavi, 38 years old, and Ali Kheirbin, 42 years old, were sentenced to death on drug-related charges. This organization quoted an informed source stating: 'Asghar Jafari was arrested three years ago and sentenced to death, while Majid Mousavi and Ali Kheirbin were also arrested two years ago in a joint case and sentenced to death.' These three prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement for the execution of their sentences on Sunday afternoon, October 22. The Iran Human Rights Organization noted that executions of prisoners sentenced for drug-related charges have significantly increased continuously over the past three years. According to the report, the number of executions this year compared to the first six months of 2022, when 91 individuals were executed for drug-related charges, has increased by 126%, with 206 executions recorded for this charge. The Islamic Republic of Iran, alongside China, has the highest number of executions in the world.
