Iran Human Rights Organization: The Global Community Must Act to Stop Executions of Iranian Protesters

Following reports about the confirmation of death sentences for Mojahid Korkori and Reza Rasayi by the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic, a human rights organization has called for international action to stop the executions of protesters in Iran. On Wednesday, January 6, the Iran Human Rights Organization warned of a 'significant increase in executions in Iran' and urged the global community to 'do everything in their power to stop the executions of protesters, including Reza Rasayi and Mojahid Korkori.' In a statement published on its website, it noted that 'at least seven protesters have been executed in Iran this year' and emphasized that besides Mojahid Korkori and Reza Rasayi, three other protesters are also at risk of execution. According to this statement, Mahmoud Amiri-Moghadam, the director of this human rights organization, stated: 'The death sentences for Reza Rasayi and Mojahid Korkori, like those of other protesters, are based on confessions obtained under torture and without a fair trial, and have no legal validity. These sentences have been issued to intimidate the people, and only raising the political cost through civil campaigns and international pressure can prevent their implementation.' Reza (Gholam-Reza) Rasayi, a protester following the 'Ahl-e Haq' (Yarsan) faith in the city of 'Shahneh' in Kermanshah province, faced charges of killing a police officer after participating in the protests of Aban 1401 in this city and was sentenced to 'Qisas' (retribution). Following reports of the confirmation of Reza Rasayi's death sentence, a source close to the family of this protester told Voice of America that Branch 17 of the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic, presided over by 'Judge Barani,' confirmed the 'Qisas' sentence. Additionally, the sister of Abbas Korkori, known as 'Mojahid Korkori,' announced on Sunday, January 3, the confirmation of her brother's death sentence in the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic, stating that this sentence was sent from the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz to Izeh. Mojahid Korkori is a citizen from Izeh who has been accused by the Islamic Republic authorities of being involved in the shooting on November 25, 1401, against citizens in Izeh during nationwide protests; an allegation that has been repeatedly denied by the families of the victims of that incident, including the family of Kian Pirfalak. Negar Korkori confirmed in her video message that the death sentence for Mojahid Korkori, which was issued in Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz, has been confirmed in Branch 39 of the Supreme Court. The Iran Human Rights Organization also emphasized that 'Mohammad Ghobadloo, Manoochehr Mehman-Naz and Mansour Dahmarde, all of whom were protesters during the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising, have received death sentences and are at risk of execution.' The mother of Reza Rasayi, a young man sentenced to death, stated that the death sentence was issued based on 'the judge's knowledge.' Negar Korkori, the sister of Mojahid Korkori, stated that the death sentence for her brother has been confirmed in the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic. Concerns about the execution of Mojahid Korkori and Reza Rasayi have been reported, and Amnesty International has warned about the risk of execution for five detained protesters in Iran.
