Iran Human Rights Organization: The Risk of Executing Arvin Ghahramani is Serious

On Friday, June 4, the Iran Human Rights Organization announced the news of the "rejection of the request for retrial of Arvin Ghahramani, a young Iranian Jew, by the Supreme Court of the country," stating that Arvin is now at serious risk of execution at any moment. In the statement from this human rights organization, it was reported that "deliberately, certain aspects were ignored in his case, and Arvin's assistance to the injured person for transfer to the hospital and his efforts to save his life were not mentioned in the verdict." The Iran Human Rights Organization called for the immediate halt of Arvin Ghahramani's sentence and other citizens at risk of execution, emphasizing the necessity of reviewing his case in "a transparent and clear judicial process." According to this statement, the request for retrial of Arvin Ghahramani, who was sentenced to death at the age of 18 for "premeditated murder" in a street brawl, was "rejected without serious consideration, and many events at the time of the injury leading to death were also ignored." Arvin Ghahramani's relatives told the Iran Human Rights Organization that "for unknown reasons, the appointed lawyer did not provide effective defense for him, and the issue of self-defense was not seriously raised in the case." A source close to this young Iranian Jew said that "when Arvin was attacked with a cold weapon by the deceased, he took the weapon from him and defended himself. After the individual was injured, he also tried to save his life, but medical assistance arrived too late for the deceased." Sonia Ghahramani, Arvin's mother, in an audio file provided to the Iran Human Rights Organization, called on everyone to pray for Arvin's salvation. Meanwhile, the Human Rights Defenders' Center noted in their Telegram channel regarding Arvin Ghahramani's case: "Let us not forget Arvin Ghahramani, a 20-year-old who is at risk of execution at any moment." The Iran Human Rights Organization reported on May 26 that at least 103 people had been executed in various prisons in Iran in the 28 days prior. Mahmoud Amiri-Moghaddam, the director of this human rights organization, stated: "The silence of the international community regarding the execution of more than 103 individuals in the past four weeks is unacceptable and must end." Images of citizens gathering to receive the body of Parvin Mousavi shortly after her execution were shown in response to the widespread backlash and condemnation of Parvin Mousavi's execution; the judiciary defended the execution: it was confirmed by the Supreme Court. The Iran Human Rights Organization called for international action to stop executions in Iran, noting that in five months, 10 women were executed in the Islamic Republic.
