Iran Human Rights Organization Warns of Imminent Executions of Three Imprisoned Protesters

On Saturday, February 3, the Iran Human Rights Organization warned of the imminent execution of three imprisoned protesters in Iran following the confirmation of their sentences by the Supreme Court. The director of this human rights organization emphasized that the death sentences for Abbas Daris, Reza Rasayi, and Abbas (Mojahid) Korkor were issued 'based on confessions obtained under torture and without a fair trial, and have no legal legitimacy.' Mahmoud Amiri-Moghaddam stated that the purpose of these sentences is to 'intimidate the people' and mentioned that the only way to prevent the execution of these individuals is to 'raise the political cost through civil campaigns and international pressure.' Farshid Tabaniyan, the lawyer for Abbas Daris, wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, January 28, 'Despite numerous flaws in the ruling of the lower court, my client Abbas Daris's request for retrial was rejected by the Supreme Court.' Abbas Daris, a father of three and one of the detainees from the 2019 protests in Mahshahr, Khuzestan Province, has been accused of 'moharebeh' (waging war against God), disturbing public order, and participating in the murder of a special forces officer. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased officer, Reza Sayadi, has stated that they have no complaint against Abbas Daris. Reza (Gholam-Reza) Rasayi, a protester following the 'Ahl-e Haqq' (Yarsan) faith in the city of Shahin Shahr, Kermanshah Province, was also sentenced to 'qisas' (retribution) for the murder of a police officer after his arrest during the 2022 protests. Mojahid Korkor, a citizen from Izeh, has been accused of involvement in shooting at citizens during the nationwide protests on November 16, 2022; an allegation that has been repeatedly denied by the families of the victims, including the family of Kian Pirfalak. In recent weeks, relatives of Mojahid Korkor and Reza Rasayi have urged the people of Iran to raise the 'innocence' of these two prisoners to the world and warned that their lives are in danger 'at any moment.' Mohammad Moeini and Sina Yousefi, two legal experts, emphasized in an interview with the Persian section of Voice of America about the issuance and execution of death sentences for protesters by the Islamic Republic that this systematic process aims to create intimidation in society.
