The Iran national football team won the Intercontinental Cup Asia-Oceania with a score of three goals. The first half of the match between Iran and New Zealand ended 2-0 in favor of Iran. In this half, as in the first, the ball and field were completely under the control of the Iranian national team, proving their worth as the top team in Asia under the management of Branko Ivanković. Iran's attacks began early in the second half against New Zealand's goal. In the 48th minute, Mehdi Mahdavikia sent a pass from the right to Nikbakht, which was saved by the goalkeeper. In the 53rd minute, New Zealand's number 15, Davis, received a yellow card from the referee for a foul on Kaveyanpour. Following this, Nekounam's heavy shot in the 56th minute went over the goal.
