TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of Iran’s parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said lawmakers have finalized a comprehensive plan aimed at strengthening security and expanding economic development in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Azizi, the draft legislation — titled the “Plan for the Security and Development of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz” — will be reviewed once parliament reconvenes.
He said coordination has already taken place with Iran’s Constitutional Council and Foreign Ministry, while input has also been received from the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Azizi said the proposal complies with international law and would allow the Iranian government to conclude agreements with other countries concerning the strategic waterway.
“The Strait of Hormuz, which belongs to the Islamic Republic of Iran, is one of the world’s fourteen strategic chokepoints and an unparalleled geographic asset that has remained largely untapped,” the statement said. “Iran now seeks to use this capacity for power generation, economic production, defense and security, and maritime services.”
The proposed legislation would ban the entry of vessels from hostile countries as well as military ships “under any pretext,” which lawmakers described as reflecting Iran’s gains following the recent conflict.
Iran’s deputy parliament speaker also said future passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be regulated under a new parliamentary law.
Separately, the commission has prepared a reciprocal action plan targeting U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and commanders of U.S. Central Command over their role in the assassination of Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Feb. 28.
“We believe that the U.S. president, the Zionist prime minister, and the CENTCOM commander must be subjected to reciprocal action,” Azizi said.
Azizi said Iran’s strategy of asymmetric warfare and popular mobilization enabled the country to withstand pressure from what he described as “two nuclear powers.”
He also criticized the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar for allowing the United States to use military bases in the Persian Gulf during the conflict.
“The Americans are now banned from entry; they have fled and are anchored hundreds of miles away in the Indian Ocean,” he said.
The lawmaker added that the recent conflict had reshaped international perceptions of Iran, saying Tehran would not compromise on its national interests, security or dignity.
Iran says the United States and Israel launched military attacks against the country on Feb. 28, targeting civilian and nuclear infrastructure. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes under Operation True Promise 4.
A Pakistan-brokered ceasefire remains in effect, though tensions persist as U.S. naval restrictions on Iranian ports continue and negotiations remain stalled.
