Iran Police: One of the Shooters and Sources of Insecurity in Dezful Killed

The police chief of Dezful stated that "one of the shooters and sources of insecurity" in Dezful, who "had been shooting with military and hunting weapons at many wedding and mourning ceremonies," was killed during a police chase. According to a report from the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on February 11, this individual, along with another person, opened fire with a Kalashnikov while riding a motorcycle in the city of Imam, south of Dezful, on Saturday night, February 10. They then shot at police officers who were pursuing them. Ultimately, one of the motorcyclists was shot, injured, and later died in the hospital. The other individual escaped. No names or identities of the two individuals were mentioned, but the police chief of Dezful noted that the deceased had "a history of shooting at many wedding and mourning ceremonies." The Dezful prosecutor's office also confirmed the death of the "shooter and source of insecurity" in the city of Imam, stating that "the judiciary and police forces will decisively confront those who disrupt public order and security and will not relent." This is not the first time in recent months that news of shootings or conflicts in Dezful has been reported. For instance, in October, two people were killed during a shooting at a mourning ceremony. On November 4, the Intelligence Department of Khuzestan Province announced that "all the perpetrators of the shooting incident" had been arrested. IRNA reported that "the incorrect custom of shooting at wedding and mourning ceremonies in some rural areas of Khuzestan has left several dead and injured in recent years." The reason for the shooting on Saturday night is unclear, but regarding the attack on the mourning ceremony in October, Iranian police officials had stated that it was "security-related" and emphasized that it was not connected to personal or tribal issues.
