The Rasht Revolutionary Court has once again sentenced political prisoner Zahra Tabari to death. This criminal ruling was communicated to her in recent days.
Zahra Tabari was first sentenced to death in November 2025 by the First Branch of the Rasht Revolutionary Court, presided over by the notorious judge Ahmad Darvish-Goftar, on the charge of armed rebellion (Baghi) through ‘membership and activity in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).’ This followed a sham ten-minute trial conducted via video conference and without a defense lawyer of her choice.
Following widespread global protests against this criminal sentence, the mullahs’ Supreme Court, in a theatrical move, referred her case for retrial to the Second Branch of the Rasht Revolutionary Court, presided over by henchman Mohammad Ali Darvish-Goftar, the son of Ahmad Darvish-Goftar. As expected, on April 14, 2026, this branch once again sentenced the political prisoner to death on the same charges. This criminal verdict was served to her this week.
Zahra Tabari, 68, an electrical engineer with a Master’s degree in sustainable energy from the University of Borås in Sweden, was arrested in April 2025 when security agents raided her home in Rasht. She had previously been arrested in June 2022 and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations, its relevant bodies, the European Union, and its member states to take immediate action to save the lives of political prisoners facing death sentences, particularly Zahra Tabari, and to secure their immediate release.
