Iran: Saudi Fighters Damage Iranian Embassy in Yemen

Iran's news network reported on Wednesday, February 7, citing the Al-Alam television network, that Saudi warplanes have caused damage to the walls and courtyard of the Iranian embassy in Sana'a, Yemen's capital, with a "multiple attack" on residential areas near the embassy. Fars News Agency also reported on Wednesday that Saudi fighters fired rockets at the vicinity of the Iranian embassy in Sana'a, causing damage to the embassy building. Fars states that the "impact of the missiles" has damaged part of the embassy's wall. Previously, on January 7, Tehran accused Saudi Arabia of targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran's embassy in Sana'a with its aircraft. One day after Iran threatened to file a complaint against Saudi Arabia with the United Nations regarding this matter, Saudi Arabia denied the attack. The Saudi coalition's coordination headquarters in Yemen also announced that no attack had occurred on the Iranian embassy in Sana'a or its vicinity. The Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been conducting extensive ground and air operations against Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen since March. Iran's accusation in January regarding an airstrike on its embassy in Yemen came shortly after a prolonged crisis began between Tehran and Riyadh over the execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, a dissident Shia cleric from Saudi Arabia, by Riyadh; an execution that led to a mob attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran and its burning. Following this incident, Saudi Arabia severed its relations with Iran and accused Tehran of violating international regulations and conventions regarding the protection of diplomatic premises. In this context, the "hope of the U.S." for the reopening of the Saudi embassy in Tehran was expressed, while the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the attack on the Saudi embassy. The Arab coalition denied the attack on the Iranian embassy building in Sana'a.
