Iran to Provide List of Purchased Equipment to International Inspectors

Iran says it will present a list of equipment purchased from abroad that is used for uranium enrichment to international inspectors. A senior official in Tehran states that the Iranian government has agreed to provide the list to United Nations inspectors. This agreement is part of Iran's efforts to demonstrate goodwill and cooperation with UN inspectors in examining the country's nuclear power projects, which are under global scrutiny. Earlier this year, inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) obtained evidence indicating that two sites in Iran are being used for high-level uranium enrichment. High-level enriched uranium can be used for producing nuclear weapons. Iran claims that this equipment entered the country upon arrival and insists that it is only used for electricity generation. Iran has not officially named the locations or sources of the uranium enrichment equipment but it is reported that the purchased equipment was produced in Pakistan and sold on the black market. An IAEA delegation traveled to Iran last week to gather more information regarding the country's nuclear project. Last month, the IAEA committee gave the Iranian government until the end of October to prove that its nuclear project is solely for electricity generation and not a cover for the production and development of nuclear weapons.
