Iran Women's Futsal Team Repeats Championship Victory in Asia

The Iranian women's national futsal team achieved championship status by defeating Japan in the final of the Asian Cup. The tournament was held in Thailand, and Iran successfully defended its title from the first edition of the games with a 5-2 victory. During this year's competition, Iran triumphed over Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and China, and in the semifinals, they defeated Vietnam with a score of five goals. The first half of the final match ended in a goalless draw, with Japan having a slight advantage, but Iranian goalkeeper Farzaneh Tosoli managed to save Japan's opportunities. In the second half, Iran adopted a more aggressive approach, leading to Sara Shirbeigi scoring the first goal in the 28th minute, disrupting Japan's formation and cohesion. They quickly conceded a second goal from a free kick by Fereshteh Karimi. A minute later, Shirbeigi scored Iran's third goal, and shortly after, she completed her hat-trick. Japan was forced to use the power play strategy and attacked without a goalkeeper to reduce the deficit, managing to score only twice against Iran's defense. In the 36th minute, Fahimeh Zarei scored Iran's fifth goal, contrasting with the previous final, which had only one goal. By winning the Asian championship, the Iranian national team secured a spot for the Iranian youth futsal team to participate in the Youth Olympics. At the trophy presentation ceremony, Fereshteh Karimi was awarded the Most Valuable Player title, having also been the best player in the previous tournament. Sara Shirbeigi and Fatemeh Eteadi topped the scoring chart, with Shirbeigi receiving the top scorer trophy after achieving two hat-tricks in the competition. The head coach of the Iranian national team is Shahrazad Mozaffar, with former men's futsal coach Ali Sanai also present on the bench. Iran was recognized as the fair play team of the tournament, with Nasimeh Gholami, the captain of the Iranian national team, receiving the fair play award.
