Iranian Drones in Bolivia's Sky; Argentina Protests

Despite Argentina's "security concerns" regarding the agreement between Iran and Bolivia, Bolivia's Defense Minister, Edmundo Novillo, expressed interest in acquiring Iranian drones to enhance border security and combat smuggling and drug trafficking. According to the Associated Press, Novillo dismissed Argentina's security claims as exaggerated and suggested that they are politically motivated, especially with Argentina's upcoming elections. While both Argentine and Bolivian lawmakers seek information about this security agreement with the Islamic Republic, Novillo denied signing an official memorandum with Iran, stating that this "action" is meant to identify common interests between the two countries. The contract for the "purchase of Iranian drones" has raised security concerns in Argentina due to past allegations of the Islamic Republic's involvement in the 1994 Buenos Aires bombing. The Bolivian Defense Minister emphasized that Bolivia's intent is solely to meet border security needs and that his visit to Tehran should not be perceived as a threat to neighboring countries. On the other hand, U.S. intelligence officials recently warned that Moscow, with the help of the Islamic Republic, is constructing a drone production facility on Russian soil, which is expected to be completed by April next year. According to CNN, this could have a significant impact on the course of the war in Ukraine. CNN noted that analysts from the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency stated in a meeting on Friday that with the establishment of this drone production facility, Russia will have access to more drones than it has obtained from Iran so far. Earlier, the U.S. Institute of Peace reported that Tehran and Moscow began efforts to produce about six thousand Iranian drones on Russian territory earlier this year.
