Iranian Embassy in Kuwait: Two Detained Iranian Citizens Have Been Released

The Iranian Embassy in Kuwait announced that two Iranian citizens who were detained on charges of photographing a Hosseiniyah in Kuwait have been released. The consular section of the Iranian Embassy in Kuwait stated on Sunday, October 10, that these two Iranians were arrested two days earlier for taking pictures of a Hosseiniyah in Kuwait, and a diplomat from the consular section met with them after their release. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior had reported on Thursday, October 7, that two Iranians were detained while photographing a Hosseiniyah and other locations in Kuwait, and 'suspicious photos' were discovered on their mobile phones. The two individuals had entered Kuwait separately over the past two months. The official Kuwaiti news agency published images of the two individuals, naming them as 'Hassan Ali' born in 1989 and 'Adel Abdulrahim' born in 1978. The news agency's reference could pertain to the names of these two individuals, and no mention was made of their last names in this report. Some Shia Muslims in Kuwait are preparing to hold mourning ceremonies for the month of Muharram, and the Kuwaiti police have announced that security measures will be increased in conjunction with the Muharram ceremonies. In a 2015 suicide bombing by the Islamic State group in one of the Shia mosques in Kuwait, 27 people were killed. At the end of August, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior also reported the arrest of 10 Iranian citizens on charges of 'attempting to enter the country illegally and secretly.' Alireza Enayati, the Iranian ambassador to Kuwait, stated on September 5 that without mentioning the number of released individuals, several of these 10 people had returned to Iran.
