Iranian Users' Reactions to the Killing of a Police Officer in Germany: Abuse of Democracy to Destroy the Achievements of the Free World

The killing of a young police officer in Germany by an assailant who attacked a demonstration against 'Political Islam' has sparked reactions from Iranian users on social media, with some critics deeming 'Islamism' a 'major threat.' German authorities announced on Sunday that the 29-year-old police officer who was injured during the knife attack on Friday in Mannheim has died. According to additional reports, the assailant, identified as 'Sulaiman,' is an Afghan migrant. Earlier, the Associated Press reported that a court in Germany ordered the suspect to be held in custody following the knife attack at the event opposing 'Political Islam.' This incident and the news surrounding it have provoked reactions from Iranian users on social media. Navid Mohibi, a political analyst, stated on Monday that Rouven L., the German police officer, 'died from injuries sustained after being attacked by an Islamist Afghan refugee in Mannheim.' He added, 'Islamism is a major threat, and those who downplay this reality are an even bigger problem. Islamism must be eradicated.' Fariborz Karami Zand, a former police officer, reacted to the incident on social media, writing, 'In Iran, we have faced a government akin to ISIS for 45 years since the establishment of the Islamic Republic, which has a dark history of assassinating critics and opponents, stabbing writers and political activists, and eliminating political activists and journalists both inside and outside the country.' He noted that 'security services in Europe constantly report that gatherings of extremist groups supporting Hamas are instigated by agents of the Islamic Republic,' adding, 'In recent weeks, Iranians abroad have been threatened or harassed by agents of the Islamic Republic. Sooner or later, Western governments will have to take action against these threats.' Mohsen Banaei, a history researcher, remarked that when 'the 57ers label us researchers and critics of Islam as far-right and Islamophobic, they have preemptively issued a license for our physical elimination by Islamic terror.' Elaheh Beghrat, a journalist, reacted to the killing of the young German police officer, stating that there should be 'no democracy, freedom, or tolerance' for those who come to Western countries 'to destroy democracy, freedom, tolerance, and the achievements of the free world.' Mehdi Yahyanejad, another journalist, shared a video with a different angle on the incident, claiming that one of the demonstrators mistakenly 'attacked the person who had subdued the assailant' and that 'the police also tried to prevent his mistake' to allow others to subdue the assailant. Based on images shared on social media, during the right-wing demonstration against 'Political Islam' in Germany on Friday, an individual attacked people in the central square of Mannheim with a knife, injuring at least one person in the leg and wounding a young police officer in the neck, who died two days later from his injuries. This attack occurs in the final days of the European Parliament election campaigns. The far-right Alternative for Germany party has made the threat posed by immigration from Islamic countries one of the main focuses of its election campaign. Nancy Faeser, Germany's Interior Minister, stated in a statement, 'If investigations reveal that there was an Islamist motive behind this attack, it will be further confirmation of the significant danger posed by Islamist violence that we have warned about.' Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, also stated that the assailant should be severely punished.
