Iranians Abroad Hold Protests on Second Anniversary of Mahsa Amini's Death in Cities Worldwide

On the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death while in custody of the morality police and the onset of nationwide protests in 2022, Iranians abroad held protests and marches in several cities around the world on Sunday, September 16. These gatherings began in Australia and New Zealand in the Southern Hemisphere and continued in several European countries, with planned events also taking place in some cities in the United States and Canada later in the afternoon. In London, dozens of Iranians marched from the city center to the British Prime Minister's office, urging British officials not to compromise with the Islamic Republic. Additionally, Iranians residing in France gathered at the Bastille Square and continued their assembly with a march to the Paris City Hall. Another gathering took place in the French capital shortly after. Images from the Paris protest show Yasmin Pahlavi, the wife of Prince Reza Pahlavi, among the protesters. According to reports from citizens to VOA, Iranians in Hamburg, northern Germany, also participated in the memorial for Mahsa Amini and other victims of the 2022 protests, holding flags of Iran featuring the lion and sun emblem. Groups of Iranians abroad also gathered in Hamburg and Berlin, the capital of Germany, to commemorate the victims of the nationwide protests and the 'Women, Life, Freedom' movement. A number of Iranians in Sweden also honored the memory of Mahsa Amini and the victims of the protests on the second anniversary of her death. A group of Iranians in Groningen, Netherlands, also held a gathering on the second anniversary of Mahsa (Jina) Amini's death while in police custody. According to announced plans, gatherings will also be held in Washington D.C., the capital of the United States, and in several areas of Canada, including Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Saskatchewan, and Quebec City in the coming hours. On Saturday, groups of Iranians in several European countries, including France, Germany, and the UK, gathered in support of the nationwide protests of Iranians inside the country and to commemorate Mahsa Amini and the victims of these protests. In London, a group of monarchist Iranians held a performance protest to honor the victims of the nationwide protests in Iran. Mahsa (Jina) Amini died in Kasra Hospital in Tehran on September 16, 2022, just days after being detained by the morality police, and her death sparked widespread protests across Iran that continued for months in the streets, universities, and schools. During the crackdown on the nationwide protests in 2022 by government forces, hundreds of citizens were killed and thousands were injured and arrested.
