Iran's Ambassador to Kuwait: The Level of Relations Between the Two Sides Has Not Changed

After Kuwait recalled its ambassador from Tehran following attacks on Saudi diplomatic sites, Iran's ambassador to Kuwait stated that the relations between the two countries have not been "cut off" and that "a reduction is not on the table." According to IRNA news agency, Alireza Enayati, Iran's ambassador to Kuwait, said on January 5 that "there is no such thing as cutting relations or reducing the level of relations between Iran and Kuwait, and the miscellaneous news reported in this regard is not accurate." According to what Mr. Enayati wrote on his Facebook page, the President of Iran has issued an "order to pursue" the attacks and arson of Saudi diplomatic sites. Kuwait's news agency reported on Tuesday, January 5, that the country's ambassador was recalled from Iran. However, this news agency did not provide an explanation in this regard, but the recall of the ambassador occurred following attacks on the Saudi embassy and consulate while Riyadh and some of its allies had severed their relations with Iran. According to IRNA, the Iranian ambassador in Kuwait, after a meeting with high-ranking officials of the country's Foreign Ministry, stated that the Kuwaiti government had submitted a note of protest regarding the events in Tehran and Mashhad. The Iranian ambassador to Kuwait told the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kuwait that "we do not accept such a situation and we are sorry." The UN Security Council condemned the attacks on the Saudi embassy and consulate in Tehran and Mashhad "in the strongest terms." This is not the first time that a group of individuals has attacked diplomatic sites in Iran and caused damage to them. The recent attack has faced criticism from a group of political officials in Iran, including the President and some military officials, such as the commander of the Tehran Revolutionary Guards. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic has not yet reacted to these events.
