Iran's Communications Minister: Some Data Centers in the Country Faced Cyber Attacks

Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Iran's Minister of Communications, stated on Friday evening, April 6, that some data centers in the country have been subjected to cyber attacks. He mentioned that the scope of the attacks extends beyond Iran, and the origin of the attacks is under investigation. Azari Jahromi tweeted: 'Tonight, some data centers in the country faced cyber attacks. Several small routers have been reset to factory settings.' The Iranian Communications Minister added: 'The Maher Center is assisting these data centers to control the attack and is in the process of restoring their networks to normal. Efforts to create insecurity present an opportunity to correct flaws.' He continued: 'Initial investigations indicate that the attacked routers had a U.S. flag hacked into them, protesting against the U.S. election.' An hour later, Azari Jahromi tweeted again: 'So far, over 95% of the routers affected by the attack have returned to normal and resumed service.' Meanwhile, the Iranian Communications Minister did not specify which centers were attacked. Previously, several institutions and ministries in Iran had been subjected to cyber attacks, including in 2012 when the main telecommunications and internet systems of the Ministry of Oil and the National Oil Company were attacked.
