Iran's Judiciary Spokesman: No One Has Been Arrested in the Ismail Haniyeh Case So Far

The spokesman for Iran's judiciary denied reports regarding the arrest of several individuals following the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, stating that no arrests have been made in connection with this case so far. Asghar Jahangir told reporters on Tuesday, August 7, that speculations in the media and social networks about arrests in this case are not true and that no arrests have taken place. He did not provide any further explanation regarding the judicial process of the case concerning the killing of this Hamas leader. The extremist group Hamas is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union. Mr. Haniyeh was killed in the early hours of August 1 at a military guesthouse in northern Tehran. According to the Revolutionary Guards, he was killed by 'short-range projectile fire... accompanied by a severe explosion.' It seems that the spokesman's reference to the reports from the New York Times on August 4, which cited two Iranian sources stating that more than 20 individuals from the military guesthouse in Tehran where Ismail Haniyeh was killed, some of whom are high-ranking individuals, had been arrested. According to the newspaper, those arrested included senior intelligence officers, military officials, and staff working at the guesthouse. Security agents reportedly stormed the residence, confiscating the mobile phones and electronic devices of all staff and arresting several individuals. The New York Times also reported on the interrogation of several senior military and intelligence officials who had played a role in the protection of Tehran, citing sources that indicated the Revolutionary Guards believe that members of the Mossad team are still inside Iran. Iranian officials have repeatedly stated in recent days that Israel, in cooperation with the United States, was involved in the 'assassination' of Ismail Haniyeh and that taking 'revenge' on this country is certain.
