Iran's Judiciary Spokesperson: Student from Science and Research University Discharged from Hospital

The spokesperson for Iran's judiciary announced the discharge of a student from the Science and Research University of Tehran from the hospital, amid growing concerns about her fate after she was arrested while undressed during a protest. Asghar Jahangir stated this during a press conference on Tuesday, November 29, saying, "Given that she was sent to the hospital and it has been determined that she is ill, she has been handed over to her family, who are currently taking care of her." He emphasized that no legal case has been opened against this student. Ahoo Daryayi is a student at the Science and Research Unit of Azad University in Tehran, who undressed in public during a protest on November 12, 1403, and was arrested shortly thereafter. The Minister of Science confirmed that the student is receiving treatment. Iranian officials have described her action as stemming from "mental disorder" and stated that she was transferred to a psychiatric hospital for treatment. This action by the Iranian government has received widespread attention both domestically and internationally, with Amnesty International expressing concern about her transfer to an "unspecified psychiatric hospital" on social media. The organization noted that it had previously documented instances of the government suppressing protesters under the pretext of needing "treatment" for "mental disorders." In another part of the press conference, the judiciary spokesperson addressed statements made by Abbas Palizdar, a member of the seventh parliament's investigative committee regarding the "corruption" of senior officials in the Islamic Republic, stating that a private individual has filed a complaint against him. Jahangir added, "Given the private complaint, a case has been opened in the Tehran investigative branch and is in the preliminary investigation stage." However, he did not mention who had filed the complaint against Palizdar. Recently, Palizdar had discussed the "deep-rooted" corruption of some Islamic Republic officials in a video interview with the 'Didban Iran' page on YouTube. Among the officials he accused in the video are Mohammad Yazdi, the first head of the judiciary after the revolution, Mahmoud Shahroudi, a former head of the judiciary, and Gholamali Haddad-Adel, a former speaker of parliament. He stated that he had delivered a report on the "corruption" cases of 52 senior government officials to the Supreme Leader, but instead of them, he himself was punished. The judiciary spokesperson also mentioned that the German government was aware of the situation of Jamshid Sharmhad, a dual Iranian-German citizen who was recently reported dead by the judiciary, before the execution of his death sentence. Jahangir stated that the German government was informed of Sharmhad's "natural" death in a timely manner and that the matter was communicated to the German government through legal channels before the execution of the sentence. The Iranian judiciary spokesperson emphasized that the statement from the judiciary's media center after Sharmhad's death was based on "the summary of opinions gathered from relevant authorities and no unrealistic matters were observed in this statement." The Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic had accused Mr. Sharmhad of orchestrating an explosion on April 13, 2008, at the Seyyed al-Shohada Hosseiniyeh in Shiraz and sentenced him to death, an accusation that Mr. Sharmhad's family described as "absurd." Ghazaleh Sharmhad, the daughter of this journalist and political activist, stated after her father's death that the family had no evidence of her father's execution. Following this, the Iranian judiciary announced that Jamshid Sharmhad had not been executed and had "passed away" before the execution of the sentence; this issue has heightened tensions between Iran and Germany.
