Iran's Minister of Intelligence: One of ISIS's Leaders Killed at the Border

Mahmoud Alavi, Iran's Minister of Intelligence, stated on Monday, December 8, that the security forces of the Islamic Republic identified and killed one of the leaders of the ISIS group in the border areas of Iran. According to the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA), Mr. Alavi referred to this senior ISIS member as 'Abu Aisha Kurdi,' who was identified and killed 'along with several other suicide operatives at the border.' Earlier in September, the Minister of Intelligence had reported the identification of a terrorist group known as Abu Aisha by the forces of this ministry and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). At that time, Mr. Alavi stated that this group had been dismantled and its members killed. However, the Minister did not specify whether there was a connection between this group and Abu Aisha Kurdi. He only mentioned that 'this person intended to enter the capital but was killed by the preparedness of the soldiers of Imam Zaman.' Mr. Alavi further added, 'Finding a suicide bomber in a 14 million population city like Tehran is harder than finding a needle in a haystack; but when God's grace is upon us, a suicide bomber can be found among millions.' In recent months, the Minister of Intelligence has repeatedly reported the discovery and neutralization of 'terrorist operations by Takfiri groups' in various parts of the country, including Fars province, Central province, and Tehran. He recently stated that 'in past years, several terrorist groups were discovered annually in Iran, but today, a terrorist team is discovered every week in the country.' Iran has engaged in action against the group known as the 'Islamic State' or ISIS in the fronts of Syria and Iraq. On the other hand, officials of the Islamic Republic believe that some foreign countries, such as Saudi Arabia, are trying to destabilize the eastern regions of Iran by supporting terrorist groups. In this context, the regional commander of the IRGC stated: 'We have accurate news of Saudi Arabia's efforts to create insecurity at the eastern borders.' The Minister of Intelligence also mentioned that hundreds of young Iranians intending to join ISIS have been identified.
