Iran's National Football Team's Participation in the U.S. Canceled

The participation of Iran's national football team in the United States has been canceled. According to the Iranian Sports News Agency (IPNA), Gholamhossein Zamanabadi, the spokesperson for the Iranian Football Federation, stated in an interview regarding the rejection of the American invitation for a friendly match that they were not inclined to accept the Americans' proposal from the beginning. He mentioned that they submitted the American proposal to the Overseas Council of the Physical Education Organization. The spokesperson further stated that after observing the non-fulfillment of certain commitments mentioned in the invitation letter from the U.S., they decided to withdraw from attending. He added that there were other reasons for not accepting the invitation from the U.S. Football Federation, including the timing of Iran's visit to the U.S. in May, which posed several challenges. On one hand, the national youth and senior teams are preparing for the Athens Olympic qualifiers and the World Cup, and they will be engaged in these competitions. On the other hand, the domestic cup and league matches, as well as the participation of two representatives from Iran in the Asian Champions League during this month, would inadvertently create difficulties. For these reasons, the federation decided to cancel the trip to the U.S., and due to the specific conditions in the U.S., there was no interest from the federation officials to participate in this match from the outset. Issues related to visa procurement and similar matters were also among the concerns.
