Iran's Population Exceeds 81 Million

The Statistical Center of Iran announced on Wednesday, March 14, that the country's population surpassed 81 million in the final days of the current solar year. This report, published on the official website of the Statistical Center, states that the 'population clock' displays Iran's population at any moment based on demographic estimates. Accordingly, the population clock of the Statistical Center of Iran shows that the population of the country exceeded 81 million in the last days of the year 1396. The population clock in Iran was first placed on the Statistical Center's website in 1388, and since then, demographic estimates have been provided to users in real-time. To calculate the population clock designed on the National Statistics Portal, factors affecting population growth, including fertility, mortality, and migration, are considered for the entire country. The demographic chart of Iran from 1335 to 1390 shows that Iran's population has increased nearly 2.5 times since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution in Bahman 1357. However, in recent years, Iranian officials, especially Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, have expressed concern about the rapid aging of the population and called for an increase in birth rates. The head of the Welfare Organization recently announced that thirty percent of the total population will be elderly in the next three decades. He added that according to the latest census last year, about 9.3 percent of the population currently belongs to the elderly age group. Previously, the director general of statistics and demographic information of the Civil Registration Organization had stated that based on the latest statistics extracted until the end of the year 1394, the population of middle-aged individuals increased to 44 percent, while the youth decreased to 26 percent. Meanwhile, one percent has also been added to the elderly population of the country.
