Iran's Presidential Guard Prevents Armed Intruder from Entering with a Machete

The Deputy Security Governor of Tehran announced that a man attempting to enter the Presidential Office with a machete was injured by gunfire from the security forces and has been transferred to a hospital. Several news agencies, including Tabnak, reported on Tuesday, February 5, that the individual attempted to enter the Presidential Office after passing through the first gate, which had 'minimal inspection,' and was stopped at the second gate by gunfire from the guards. Mohsen Hamdani, the Deputy Security Governor of Tehran, stated that the individual is approximately 35 years old and was injured in the leg due to the shooting after attacking the security forces with a cold weapon. Hamdani mentioned that the individual has been 'arrested and transferred to the hospital,' and efforts are underway to identify him and understand the motive behind his actions. Meanwhile, Tehran's Governor, Mohammad Hossein Maqimi, noted that while the individual has been hospitalized, his motive remains unclear. He emphasized the need to wait for the individual's condition to improve before questioning him to clarify the details of the incident. The Governor pointed out that given the individual was armed with a machete and ignored security warnings, the judiciary should currently handle the matter. Previously, there have been attacks on government buildings and sites in Iran, including simultaneous attacks on the Parliament building and the tomb of Ayatollah Khomeini on June 7, which were later claimed by the Islamic State group, resulting in 17 deaths and over 50 injuries. Following that, Iranian security and judicial officials announced the arrest of dozens in the provinces of Alborz, West Azerbaijan, Fars, Kermanshah, and Kurdistan.
