Iran's Reaction to US Plan for Complete Oil Sanctions: We Will Resist

The spokesperson for the Islamic Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to remarks from a US official regarding the complete sanctions on Iran's oil, emphasizing that Tehran will resist these pressures. Bahram Qasemi, in an interview with the IRNA news agency on Wednesday, July 6, described this US policy as 'unilateral' and 'medieval,' stating: 'No country today has the right to impose its desires and wishes on others, and other countries will not accept such a policy.' According to him, the US President is 'seeking to compel the Islamic Republic to make emotional and irrational actions, both through the illegal withdrawal from the JCPOA and through these unilateral policies,' but 'the Islamic Republic can resist these pressures.' On Tuesday, a US State Department official stated that Washington has asked countries purchasing Iranian oil to reduce their imports to zero starting from November (November 13). The day after, the US ambassador to the UN, in a meeting with the Indian Prime Minister, urged this Asian country to cut its dependence on Iranian oil. However, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson claims that all these actions are already 'failed' and 'wrong.' Mr. Qasemi stated: 'It seems that the United States has still not been able to recognize the undeniable realities of the culture and civilization and the independence-seeking spirit of the Iranian people and is using completely failed and erroneous methods.' He added: 'The policy of pressure and sanctions, like in the past, will have no results in the future and will only increase the wall of distrust and hostility against the US in Iran and the region.' In recent days, while sanctions have not yet been reinstated, Iran has witnessed an unprecedented drop in the value of its national currency, leading to protests in Tehran and several other major cities, including Tabriz, Isfahan, and Kermanshah.
