Iraqi Reaction to MEK's Claim About 'Continuing Iran's Nuclear Weapons Program'

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister dismissed the claims made by the People's Mujahedin Organization regarding 'secret' nuclear activities at the Parchin facility as 'ridiculous' and a 'repetition of a failed scenario.' According to IRIB News Agency, Abbas Araqchi on Saturday, April 21, referred to the actions of the People's Mujahedin Organization as a 'dance of joy' in front of the new US administration, aimed at 'providing fodder for extremists in that country.' He emphasized that the building shown at the press conference by the Mujahedin was 'administrative buildings.' The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister advised the US government not to fall into the trap of 'false leads and misleading file-making' by groups he described as 'terrorist' and their 'regional supporters' to promote Iranophobia. Alireza Jafarzadeh, a senior member of the Mujahedin Organization, claimed on Friday at a press conference in Washington that the Islamic Republic of Iran is 'secretly advancing its nuclear weapons program' despite the JCPOA agreement. He stated that Iran continues its nuclear weapons-related activities in a new area of the Parchin military complex under the cover of the 'New Defense Research Organization' known as 'Sepand.' This Mujahedin official also mentioned in an exclusive interview with Radio Farda that he has provided details of these covert activities of the Iranian government to the International Atomic Energy Agency and the US government. The IAEA Board of Governors closed the file on the possible military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program known as PMD on December 15, 2015, after a special meeting following the Director General's report. Subsequently, the IAEA announced that Iran had adhered to its commitments under the Vienna nuclear agreement. Recently, the US Secretary of State, in a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, confirmed Iran's compliance with the JCPOA provisions, although he stated that the US government is evaluating the benefits of the Iran nuclear deal for American national security. Rex Tillerson emphasized the day after this letter was published that Washington is conducting a comprehensive review of its policies toward Iran and that the nuclear agreement has only delayed Iran's access to nuclear weapons and has 'failed' to prevent this issue.
