Iraqi to Attend 'Iran and IAEA Meeting' in Vienna

An informed Iranian government official has stated that Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, is scheduled to participate in a meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on Tuesday, December 3, to negotiate with Yukiya Amano regarding the conclusion of outstanding past issues or potential military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program. According to the Central News Unit, this informed official emphasized in Vienna on Saturday, November 30: 'The subject of Tuesday's meeting will be a summary of all past and present issues.' The one-day meeting on Tuesday, December 3 (November 24) is being held to summarize actions within the framework of the 'roadmap.' Iran and the IAEA signed an agreement titled 'roadmap' on July 23 of this year, under which outstanding past issues or potential military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program or 'PMD' are to be resolved within that framework. In this context, the IRNA news agency also reported the presence of Hamid Baidi-Nejad, head of the nuclear negotiation expert team, in Vienna, stating that Abbas Araghchi will negotiate with Yukiya Amano, the Director General of the IAEA, regarding the summary of the roadmap. According to the nuclear agreement in Vienna or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the IAEA Board of Governors is to make decisions regarding outstanding past issues. Reza Najafi, Iran's representative to the IAEA, stated on Friday that the agency will publish its final assessment on December 1 (December 10). According to IRNA, in the first meeting of the Board of Governors after the presentation of the IAEA's international report, which will likely be on December 15, the members of the Board will express their views on closing the case of Iran's past issues or keeping it open. The 1+5 group has committed to presenting a draft resolution to the Board of Governors aimed at closing the case based on the JCPOA. The implementation of the JCPOA and the lifting of sanctions against Iran depend on the country's actions in fulfilling its commitments, including reducing the number of centrifuges, removing the core of the Arak heavy water reactor, and trading existing enriched uranium for yellowcake. Meanwhile, Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, in a letter to the President of Iran regarding the implementation of the Vienna nuclear agreement, has stated that actions regarding the redesign of the Arak heavy water reactor and trading existing enriched uranium for yellowcake are only permitted when the IAEA announces the 'end' of the case regarding the potential military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program.
