IRGC Commander Says Revenge Against Israel Will Be 'Different'

Continuing the threats from Islamic Republic officials against Israel following the killing of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that revenge against Israel will be 'different.' Hossein Salami, the IRGC's commander, said on Sunday evening, September 18, in Yasuj: 'The Israelis will taste the bitter flavor of revenge for their misdeeds.' According to the Tasnim news agency, close to the IRGC, Salami commented on when, where, and how this revenge will take place, stating: 'It will definitely be different, and this riddle will be solved for everyone in due time.' Ismail Haniyeh, a senior official of the extremist group Hamas, was killed in Tehran on July 31. Hamas is recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and Israel. In recent weeks, Iranian officials have repeatedly threatened Israel with revenge, including Abbas Araqchi, the foreign minister of the Masoud Beigian government, who stated multiple times in the early days of his tenure that Iran's response to Israel would be 'precise and calculated.' In recent weeks, some media outlets have published speculations and doubts about a potential Iranian attack against Israel, but U.S. and British officials have stated that they still consider this threat serious. About two weeks ago, John Kirby, the spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, and Patrick Ryder, the Pentagon spokesperson, emphasized that Washington's assumption is that the threat of an attack by Iran and its proxy groups against Israel remains intact. The head of Britain's MI6 intelligence agency also stated a day before the IRGC commander's remarks that Iran is still seeking to carry out this threat.
