Is Production of the World's Largest Passenger Aircraft Coming to an End?

While the Russians are busy designing the world's largest transport aircraft, the likelihood of halting production of the Airbus A380, the largest passenger aircraft currently available, has increased due to a decrease in orders. New photos released in aviation media show a Russian drone, comparable in size to the Sukhoi Su-34, moving on the runway. This drone uses a large turbofan engine and bears a strong resemblance to the larger version of the Lockheed Martin RQ-170 drone. It is said to be stealthy and likely possesses combat capabilities beyond reconnaissance. The photo was taken at a facility located in Novosibirsk. This unmanned aircraft weighs 20 tons and is being developed by Sukhoi. It features a 'flying wing' design and is currently known as 'Okhotnik'. With a decrease in demand for large passenger aircraft, production of the world's largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, is at risk. Emirates, one of the largest users of this aircraft, has decided to change some of its orders to the Airbus A350 model. Last year, Emirates had ordered 20 more of these aircraft, but high operational costs have led them to consider replacing this model. Meanwhile, another customer of the Airbus A380 has also decided to cancel 10 orders for this aircraft. The Russians are developing a new wide-body transport aircraft that could be considered the largest transport aircraft in the world, intended to replace the massive Antonov An-124. This four-engine aircraft is currently in the aerodynamic design phase and is intended to carry 150 tons of cargo with a range of up to 7,000 kilometers. The Antonov An-124, manufactured by the Antonov company in Ukraine, is currently the largest transport aircraft in the world, capable of carrying 100 tons of cargo. Haidar Ali Abedi, a representative from Isfahan in the parliament, stated, 'Unfortunately, due to the economic blockade and Trump’s withdrawal from the JCPOA, the company that was supposed to carry out the airport development project has withdrawn, and we hope that domestic investors will step in for the development of Isfahan Airport.' He explained that part of the airport land for development is located in military territory, and the airport manager was following up on this issue. To expedite support for the capital, a high-speed train project between Isfahan and Tehran has been designed, which would allow travel to Tehran in less than two hours. Masoud Asadi Samani, the secretary of the Airlines Association, announced that except for the sanctions against Mahan Airlines for flights to Germany, Iranian airlines have no issues flying to foreign countries and can operate flights. He explained in an interview that 'flights of airlines to foreign destinations are permitted, and airlines have no problems regarding flight continuity. The point that the Minister of Roads and Urban Development raised regarding the sanctions on Iranian aviation pertains to the sanctions on the Iranian aviation industry, which relates to parts, equipment, and aircraft sales, imposed by the Americans since 1979. They sanctioned the Islamic Republic of Iran's aviation to prevent flights and to sanction Iran's aviation industry, and the sanctions have become increasingly stringent over time.' At the beginning of December, the German government announced that Mahan Air would no longer be able to use airports in the country for its flights starting in 2019. The latest estimates from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) indicate that air travel and traffic in China will reach over 1.6 billion flights by 2037. Currently, some major airlines are transferring their production lines to China, which is one of the largest buyers of Airbus A330 aircraft in the world. Germania Airlines in Germany declared bankruptcy due to financial issues. This airline, based in Berlin, is not a strong carrier and mainly operates on short-haul routes, transporting about four million passengers annually. It typically offers cheaper fares than other German airlines and flies to 42 different cities worldwide. The company has a fleet of 30 aircraft, including 19 Airbus A319s, six Airbus A321s, and five Boeing 737s. It has also ordered 25 Airbus A320neos.
