ISIS Calls for Increased Terrorist Operations by Its Supporters

The Islamic State (ISIS) has called on its supporters in a video to expand their 'jihad' following the recent bombings in Brussels and to carry out more similar attacks. Reuters reported that this video was released on Thursday, March 25, on websites and social media associated with the group. The video states: 'Any Muslim who is well-informed about the history of Islam knows that the holy war against infidels is an inseparable part of Islam.' In the video, ISIS refers to Belgium's presence in the U.S.-led international coalition against it, adding: 'The crusader planes, including those from Belgium, continue to bomb Muslims in Iraq and Syria around the clock.' Brussels, the capital of Belgium, witnessed the largest terrorist operation in its history this week. Explosions at the airport and one of the city's metro stations resulted in the deaths of over 30 people and injuries to about 200 others. Three Muslim individuals, two of whom were brothers, have been identified as the perpetrators of these attacks. The Belgian newspaper DH reported on Thursday that the attackers had originally intended to target a nuclear power plant in the country, but the arrest of Salah Abdeslam forced them to change their plans. On Thursday, the interior and justice ministers of the European Union gathered in Brussels to discuss further decisions and coordination on how to combat the wave of terrorist actions in the continent. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who traveled to Brussels, called for intensified efforts by countries to target ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Brussels is known as the 'capital of Europe' due to hosting the buildings and centers of the European Union and NATO.
