ISIS Claims Responsibility for Deadly Suicide Attack in Kabul

The group known as the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack on September 9 in the capital of Afghanistan. At least seven people were killed and 25 others were injured in this attack. The assault occurred on Sunday by a motorcycle-borne suicide bomber near a ceremony commemorating Ahmad Shah Durrani in the Taimani area. According to Afghan officials, all victims are civilians. Hashmat Stanikzai, a spokesman for the Kabul police, told Radio Free Europe that the attacker detonated himself among the patrol forces. Hours before the suicide explosion, security forces shot dead a suspect of a 'suicide attack' near Ahmad Shah Durrani's supporters. September 9 marks the 17th anniversary of the assassination of Ahmad Shah Durrani, a former jihadist commander in Afghanistan, and a ceremony was held with the presence of Afghan figures, including the country's Chief Executive. Ahmad Shah Durrani was targeted and killed just days before the Al-Qaeda attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. On Sunday, gunfire was heard in various parts of Kabul. Aerial gunfire was conducted in memory of Durrani, but according to the Afghan Ministry of Health, at least 13 people were injured during this aerial firing. The Afghan Ministry of Interior stated that 150 individuals who 'harassed the public' were arrested, and a number of weapons and 30 vehicles were confiscated. On Sunday, at least 20 Afghan security forces were killed in other parts of the country.
