Hamas, the Islamist militant group that governs Gaza, stated that its forces lured an Israeli unit into a house in eastern Rafah that had been pre-bombed, resulting in casualties. The Israeli army, without providing details, said a soldier was killed in southern Gaza. Israeli army radio reported that this soldier was killed in Rafah when he fell victim to an explosive trap in a house.
