Israel at War; UN Secretary-General Strongly Condemns Hamas Terrorist Attack on Israeli Cities

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, strongly condemned Hamas's attack on Israeli cities on Saturday, October 7. Guterres stated in a statement: "I strongly condemn Hamas's attack on Israeli cities this morning. These reckless and illegal attacks endanger civilian lives and must be stopped." He also supported all diplomatic efforts to prevent a broader conflict, urging all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from any actions that could escalate tensions and violence. Guterres added, "I believe that the only solution to this crisis is direct negotiation and dialogue between the parties." On the same day, the Islamist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad launched their largest attack against Israel in recent years. Cities and villages in southern and central Israel were targeted by hundreds of Hamas rocket attacks, and militants from these groups, supported by the Islamic Republic, entered areas in southern Israel. As of the time of this report, over 250 people have been reported killed and at least 1,600 others injured. Images and videos circulated on social media show Hamas militants attacking civilians after entering areas in southern Israel. There are also reports of dozens of Israeli citizens being taken hostage by the militants of this group.
