Israel: Cyber Attacks from Iran and Hezbollah Have Tripled Since October 7

Gabi Portnoy, head of Israel's National Cyber Directorate, stated on Tuesday, April 9, at a cybersecurity conference in Tel Aviv that the 'joint' cyber attacks from the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah Lebanon have tripled since October 7 of last year. According to the Israeli newspaper 'Jerusalem Post', Gabi Portnoy mentioned that the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah have made equal efforts to attack sectors they previously did not have access to. He added that the intensity of cyber attacks is greater than ever, occurring across all sectors in Israel. According to the head of Israel's National Cyber Directorate, following the attacks by Hamas militants on October 7 of last year, Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, ordered around-the-clock cyber attacks against Israel. On Monday, April 8, the National Cyber Directorate of Israel identified the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah as responsible for a cyber attack last month on a medical center in the country. The Jerusalem Post had previously reported that hackers on April 6 infiltrated the computers of the Israeli Ministry of Justice, stealing some data from the ministry, although no damage was done to its computer services. The National Cyber Directorate of Israel had also issued a warning in January regarding 'phishing' attacks by Iranian hackers. The U.S. Attorney's Office has filed charges against a '10 million dollar' Iranian hacker. The National Cyber Directorate of Israel warned to be cautious of 'update' emails from Islamic Republic hackers. The White House stated that the recent hacking operations by the Islamic Republic in the U.S. are a new warning to strengthen cybersecurity.
