Israel Discovers 'Largest Hamas Tunnel' in Gaza

Israeli forces announced on Sunday that they have discovered an unusually large tunnel designed for the passage of a high number of fighters from Gaza to the border. According to Reuters, the deepest part of this unusual and very large tunnel is reported to be 50 meters underground, with a height and width of about 3 meters. Destroying or neutralizing hundreds of kilometers of tunnels and underground bunkers is among the objectives of Israel's attack on Gaza. Hamas has a large network of tunnels in Gaza, and destroying them is part of the Israeli army's mission. The Israeli army has also begun work to fill parts of the tunnels in the Gaza Strip with seawater. Previously, Israel discovered at least 6 tunnels on its northern borders with Lebanon, which were dug by Hezbollah. Israel claims those tunnels were built with Iranian money. Daniel Hagari, a spokesperson for the Israeli army, announced that the total length of the large Gaza tunnel is 4 kilometers. Hagari did not specify whether Hamas used it for the attack on October 6, but stated that this was the 'largest' tunnel discovered in Gaza. He mentioned that 'millions of dollars' were spent on constructing this tunnel, which is large enough for vehicles to move through, and that its construction took years. Hamas did not respond to Reuters' request for comments on Israel's statements. Additionally, the Israeli army successfully conducted a trial operation of pumping seawater into Hamas tunnels. The first shipment of humanitarian aid entered Gaza through the 'Karem Shalom' crossing. The Israeli army claims to have discovered 'weapons and tunnels' in the recreational home of Yahya Sinwar. The French Foreign Minister called for an 'immediate and lasting' ceasefire in Gaza. The United States reported the downing of 14 Houthi attack drones.
