Israel Reports Arrest of Its Citizen on Charges of Nuclear Espionage for Iran

Israel has reported the identification and arrest of another of its citizens on charges of 'establishing contact with Iranian intelligence agencies' and 'offering to sell sensitive information' to these agencies. The Israeli police and the country's internal security service, Shin Bet, announced in a joint statement on Sunday, March 3, that the suspect's name is 'Doron Bukozah' and that he was arrested in the city of Be'er Sheva in southern Israel. After several months of investigation, the police and Shin Bet stated that Doron Bukozah had contacted Iranian agents himself and offered to sell information about the Dimona nuclear center, named after 'Shimon Peres', the ninth President of Israel. Shin Bet and the police only introduce suspects to court after the completion of investigations, which can take weeks or months. According to the joint statement from these agencies, the suspect pretended to have access to this research center, but in reality, he provided information that was already publicly available to Iranian agents. The police also announced that the suspect had carried out several missions, including photographing facilities and transferring information for Iranian agents. Dimona is a site where, according to alleged international reports, Israel has built its nuclear warheads and maintained its atomic arsenal over decades. The news of the arrest of this Israeli citizen comes as these two security agencies reported on March 3 the arrest of another citizen on suspicion of 'contacting' with Iranian intelligence agents and carrying out some missions requested by the Tehran government on Israeli soil. Just a day earlier, the Israeli prosecutor had asked the court to impose a 12-year prison sentence on a 72-year-old man who had recently been convicted after trial for his connections with Iranian intelligence agents and traveling to Iran. The number of Israeli residents arrested in recent months on suspicion of contacting Iranian intelligence agents and against whom indictments have been submitted to the courts has exceeded 36. The Israeli police stated that the actions of several Israeli immigrants from Azerbaijan in carrying out hundreds of missions for Iran on Israeli soil were the 'most serious' case discovered. Members of the mentioned seven-member 'gang' were arrested several months ago in northern Israel, and an indictment with 'serious' charges was submitted against them to the court.
