Israel Rescues One Hostage from Hamas Captivity; Military Operations Continue in Central and Southern Gaza

Israeli forces on Tuesday, September 6, rescued another hostage taken by Hamas during its attack on October 15 last year in southern Gaza. Israel announced the release of 52-year-old Qaid Farhan al-Qazi after a 'complex operation,' describing his medical condition as normal. According to published reports, al-Qazi, an Israeli Bedouin who worked as a guard at Kibbutz Magan near the Gaza border, was kidnapped during the terrorist attack by Hamas on October 15. He is the eighth hostage rescued from about 250 people taken by Hamas ten months ago. During the October 15 terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel, more than 1,200 Israeli citizens, including women, children, and the elderly, were killed, and over 250 others were taken captive. Following this terrorist attack, Israel launched an offensive in Gaza aimed at destroying Hamas and retrieving hostages taken by them. Approximately ten months after the October 15 attack, a total of 110 hostages have been freed from Hamas captivity, and according to Israeli estimates, 115 other hostages are still in Gaza, with 48 of them having lost their lives. The Hamas group is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Israel, Canada, Japan, and several other countries. Gaza health officials operating under Hamas control reported at least 22 Palestinians killed in Israeli military operations across the region. This comes as ceasefire negotiations continue in Cairo, but no signs of tangible progress on key issues of contention between the two sides have been observed. The Associated Press reported, citing an American official, that the latest round of high-level negotiations in Cairo ended on Sunday without reaching a final agreement. He added, 'Negotiations will continue at lower levels in the coming days to address remaining gaps.' In recent days, the Israeli army has issued several evacuation orders from various areas of Gaza, marking the highest number of evacuation orders since the war began. This has been met with protests from Palestinians, the United Nations, and aid groups, who claim that 'humanitarian' areas have diminished and no safe places remain. Families of displaced persons in the southern city of Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, where most of the population is now concentrated, say they have been forced to stay in tents on the beach. A senior UN official announced on Monday, September 5, that following a new Israeli evacuation order from Deir al-Balah, which houses the UN's operational center, the organization's aid efforts have ceased. This evacuation order was issued while the UN was preparing a program to vaccinate about 640,000 children in Gaza against polio, after at least one case of the disease was identified.
