Israel: Serious Doubts Remain About Iran's Nuclear Program

In response to the closure of the military dimensions of Iran's nuclear activities or PMD at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Israel stated that there are still 'serious doubts' regarding the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. According to Agence France-Presse, the Israeli Foreign Ministry emphasized in a statement on Wednesday, December 25, that 'Iran must continue to cooperate fully and satisfactorily with the Agency to resolve all outstanding issues to assess the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.' Hours before the Israeli Foreign Ministry's statement, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry also stated that the closure of the PMD case does not mean that if doubts arise about Iran's clandestine nuclear activities in the future, the IAEA cannot investigate. The IAEA Board of Governors passed a resolution on Tuesday, December 24, which closes the case regarding Iran's past efforts to develop nuclear weapons. This resolution was based on the latest report by Yukiya Amano, the Director-General of the Agency, which stated that although Iran had engaged in activities related to the development of nuclear weapons until 2009, no evidence has emerged since then. The Israeli Foreign Ministry's statement also referenced this report, asserting that the Islamic Republic has had 'deceptive behavior for over a decade' and that 'serious doubts and important issues regarding Iran's nuclear program remain.' The Islamic Republic had set the closure of the PMD case at the IAEA as one of its conditions for implementing the comprehensive nuclear agreement or JCPOA. In this context, Iran has 'violated' the UN resolution with the test of 'Emad.' Araghchi: We will complete our JCPOA commitments within two to three weeks.
