Israel Targets Hezbollah Weapons Depot in Eastern Lebanon

The Israeli army announced that it has targeted Hezbollah's weapons depots deep inside Lebanese territory. Videos released on Monday evening, August 29, showed large flames and several explosions following the initial attack in a region of Lebanon. Subsequently, the Israeli army stated that its fighter jets had targeted 'Hezbollah's weapons storage facilities in the Bekaa region of Lebanon.' The Israeli army also indicated that the explosions following the initial attack were a sign of 'large quantities of weapons' in this depot. Earlier, the official Lebanese news agency reported at least three Israeli airstrikes around Baalbek in eastern Lebanon, resulting in eight injuries from these attacks. Israeli attacks on areas far from the border of the two countries are less common; the village of 'Nabi Sheet' in the Baalbek outskirts, which was one of the areas attacked on Monday evening, is about 70 kilometers from the border. The attack on Monday evening occurred hours after Israel reported the death of one of its soldiers due to a drone attack by Hezbollah. Border clashes between Israel and Hezbollah have continued almost daily since the onset of the Gaza war and have intensified following an Israeli attack that resulted in the death of Fouad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah commander. According to Agence France-Presse, clashes between the two sides over the past ten months have led to the deaths of more than 580 people in Lebanon and 48 in Israel.
