Israel: We Will Ensure Naeem Qassem Soon Follows 'Nasrallah's Path'

Israel Katz, the Israeli Foreign Minister, reacted on Wednesday, November 1, to the statements of the new Hezbollah leader by posting a brief message on 'X'. The Israeli Foreign Minister referred to Naeem Qassem's promise, the newly appointed Secretary-General of Hezbollah Lebanon, to follow in Nasrallah's footsteps, writing: 'We will ensure that he will soon follow Nasrallah's path.' This message from Katz seems to hint at the killing of Hassan Nasrallah, the former leader of Hezbollah, in an Israeli attack on his hideout in Beirut. Naeem Qassem, the newly appointed Secretary-General of Hezbollah Lebanon, announced in his first speech as the new leader of this group that he would continue the path of Hassan Nasrallah, the killed Secretary-General of Hezbollah Lebanon, without any reduction. The new Secretary-General of Hezbollah Lebanon, a proxy group of the Islamic Republic, claimed in this speech that this militant group fights for Lebanon and does not act on behalf of or with the plan of anyone else. Naeem Qassem claimed that the Iranian government, without any expectations, is merely a supporter of Hezbollah's program and has no demands from this group. This is while Hezbollah Lebanon, as the main proxy arm of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region, has received extensive financial and military support from the Iranian government over the past decades. Naeem Qassem, an author of books about Ruhollah Khomeini and Ali Khamenei, is said to have traveled to Tehran with Abbas Araghchi and settled there. Hezbollah Lebanon announced on Tuesday, November 7, the election of Naeem Qassem as the new Secretary-General of this group. He replaces Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed a few weeks ago in an Israeli airstrike on Hezbollah's command center in southern Lebanon. Since the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, by Palestinian militants against Israel - which resulted in at least 1,200 deaths, including women, children, and the elderly, and over 250 others, mostly civilians, taken hostage - Israel has been in battle on several fronts with the Islamic Republic and its proxy forces. Israel has also been engaged with Hezbollah Lebanon, the primary proxy arm of the Islamic Republic, in the north.
