Israeli Airstrike Targets Ismail Haniyeh's Family Residence in Northern Gaza

On Saturday, the Israeli army targeted the residence of Ismail Haniyeh, the exiled leader of Hamas, in the northern outskirts of Gaza City. No immediate details regarding damages or casualties were available. A senior Hamas member told the Associated Press that the house was used by Haniyeh's two sons. The United States, Canada, the European Union, Japan, Israel, and several other countries have designated Hamas as a terrorist organization. Supported by the Islamic Republic, Hamas killed at least 1,400 people in the October 7 attack on Israel and took around 240 hostages. In response, Israel has resolutely aimed to eradicate Hamas, launching air, sea, and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip. Israel claims that Hamas has extensive military infrastructure in Gaza, including a network of underground tunnels, shelters, and command centers. The Israeli army also states that its attacks target Hamas militants, accusing Hamas of endangering civilians by hiding among them. Gaza is currently under siege by Israeli forces, who have urged civilians to move south. Despite these warnings, Israel has continued its attacks in the south, claiming to target Hamas members. The Israeli army reported that during operations in the south, Hamas militants seen exiting a tunnel were targeted and killed. Meanwhile, clashes continued along Israel's northern border on Saturday morning. The Israeli army announced that it targeted Hezbollah militant cells in Lebanon that attempted to fire towards Israel, as well as a Hezbollah observation post. Throughout the war, Israel and Hezbollah, Hamas's ally, have exchanged fire almost daily along the Lebanon border, raising concerns about the opening of a new front there.
