Israeli Airstrikes on Hezbollah Intelligence Headquarters in Beirut Kill Abbas Salimah and Two Other Commanders

Israeli fighter jets targeted a Hezbollah intelligence command center and an underground weapons production workshop in Beirut on Sunday morning, October 29 local time. Witnesses from Reuters reported smoke rising from the outskirts of Beirut, but it was unclear whether this was a result of the attack. Prior to the strike, the Israeli army had warned civilians in the area to evacuate. In a statement released by the Israeli army, it was reported that three Hezbollah commanders, including al-Haj Abbas Salimah, a senior figure in the group's southern command supported by the Islamic Republic, Raja Abbas Aoucha, a communications expert, and Ahmad Ali Hussein, who was responsible for developing strategic weapons, were killed. It is unclear whether these three were killed in the attack on the intelligence headquarters or in separate operations. Hezbollah has not yet responded. On Saturday, October 28, the Israeli army announced that it had destroyed tunnel entrances and underground infrastructure in southern Lebanon and had killed the deputy commander of Hezbollah's Bent Jbeil region on Friday, October 27. Simultaneously, according to the Israeli army's statement, about 70 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards Israel, triggering warning sirens in the Western Galilee and Upper Galilee areas. The Israeli army stated that some of the rockets were intercepted, while others hit the ground, causing fires. Fire and rescue services have been deployed to extinguish these fires. Border clashes between Israel and Hezbollah began a year ago when this Iranian-backed group, supporting the armed Palestinian group Hamas, started its missile attacks on Israeli territory. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, since October 2023, tens of thousands have been displaced, and more than 1,400 people have been killed in Lebanon, most of whom were in the last month. Meanwhile, Israeli officials reported that 59 people have been killed in northern Israel and the Golan Heights. Videos from the Israeli army show the attack on Hezbollah's military infrastructure and headquarters in Beirut, as well as a video attributed to the discovery of an underground smuggling fuel tunnel in Bandar Abbas. The sky over southern Beirut was filled with smoke following Israeli airstrikes, and the Pentagon is investigating a leak of classified documents regarding 'Israeli attack plans' on Telegram.
