Israeli Ambassador to the UN Calls for the Expulsion of Ali Khamenei from All Social Media

The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations thanked Elon Musk for condemning the spread of anti-Semitism and called for the expulsion of Ali Khamenei from the platform X. Gilad Erdan, in a post on his X account, referred to widespread propaganda against Israel and wrote: "Now, as you said, it is time for action. Those who call for the genocide of Jews and the destruction of the State of Israel, like Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, must be expelled from X and all social media platforms." He also shared two examples of posts attributed to Ali Khamenei on X that emphasized the destruction of Israel and the removal of this country from the map of the earth. Elon Musk, entrepreneur and founder of SpaceX and Starlink and owner of the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressed support for Israel's war against Hamas during a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Monday. Musk stated in this meeting: "Those who intend to commit murder must be neutralized, and propaganda that trains people to be killers in the future must be stopped." In a previous meeting with Elon Musk, held in California in September, Benjamin Netanyahu asked Musk to balance the protection of free speech and the fight against hate speech by ending weeks of debate over anti-Semitism on X. On November 1, Musk had also commented on why accounts like Khamenei's had not been blocked on X, saying: "We have a law similar to immunity at the United Nations. While the Ayatollahs call for the destruction of Israel, they are allowed to enter the United Nations building in New York." He added that the expectation is for leaders of countries to express their views on social media and for people to hear them, even if what they say is horrific.
