Israeli and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers Discuss Iranian-Russian Missile Cooperation

The foreign ministers of Israel and Ukraine discussed the "threats posed by the Iranian regime" against both countries. Yisrael Katz stated on Saturday in a post on X that during a phone call with Andriy Sybiha, they addressed the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine, particularly the threat from the Islamic Republic to both Israel and Ukraine. The senior Israeli diplomat praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's directive to impose restrictive measures against individuals and entities of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Katz also emphasized Israel's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity during his conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart. The Times of Israel reported, citing Ukrainian officials, that Yisrael Katz did not make any requests of his Ukrainian counterpart during this call, which focused mainly on the threat from Iranian-Russian cooperation, especially regarding ballistic missiles. Over the two and a half years of Russia's occupation of Ukraine, Putin's army has used thousands of Iranian-made drones to attack civilian infrastructure and Ukrainian citizens. The Islamic Republic's military support for Putin's invasion of Ukraine entered a new phase recently with reports of the delivery of hundreds of short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, prompting Western countries to impose a new wave of sanctions against Iranian individuals and entities involved in these military collaborations. This comes in the wake of the October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and over 250 hostages taken, during which other Iranian proxy groups, particularly Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen, have launched numerous rocket, missile, and drone attacks against Israel using Iranian weapons.
