Israeli Army Attacks Main City in Northern Gaza from Two Flanks

Israeli soldiers and tanks attacked the main northern city of Gaza on Monday, November 8, three days after the second phase of the war with Hamas began. The Israeli army announced that in recent days, alongside the expansion of ground operations in the Gaza Strip, it has targeted over 600 Hamas positions. Iran-backed Hamas militants claimed to have repelled the movement of Israeli tanks from the east. The Islamic Jihad militant group, which is fighting alongside Hamas, stated that it will continue the fight as now is not the time for a ceasefire. Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli army, said: 'We identify terrorists as we advance with ground forces and target them from the air. We are in direct conflict between ground forces and terrorists. The battle is ongoing inside the Gaza Strip.' Hamas and Islamic Jihad stated that they are also fighting Israeli forces in the city of Jenin in the West Bank. Palestinians reported that four people were killed there on Monday, and Israel stated that several militants were killed in an airstrike. The UN reported that 33 trucks carrying water, food, and medical supplies entered Gaza on Sunday, the largest shipment to date, but more aid is needed to meet urgent needs and prevent internal unrest. Haaretz reported on Saturday that Israel opened the second of three pipelines supplying water to the Gaza Strip, now flowing nearly 29 million liters per day to Hamas-controlled territories.
