Israeli Army Finds Bodies of Three Hostages in Gaza

The Israeli army announced in a statement that it has found the bodies of three Israelis, one civilian and two soldiers, who were taken hostage by Hamas during the attack on October 7 in southern Israel. According to the Israeli army, the bodies of 28-year-old Elia Tolodano, and 19-year-old soldiers Nick Beizer and Ron Sherman were identified by medical officials, army rabbis, and forensic experts, but no explanation was provided regarding the circumstances of their deaths or where they were found in Gaza. Israeli media reported that Hamas kidnapped Tolodano from the Supernova music festival. The Times of Israel reported that about 360 people were massacred in Hamas's attack on this music festival, and 36 were taken hostage. The Israeli Foreign Ministry wrote in a post on 'X': 'We regret to announce that the body of Elia Tolodano, who was kidnapped from the Supernova festival, has been returned home by the Israeli army.' According to Israel, Hamas killed at least 1,200 people, mostly civilians, during the October 7 attack and took around 240 hostages, including children, women, and the elderly. In response, Israel launched air, sea, and ground attacks aimed at eradicating Hamas. The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Israel, and several other countries have listed Hamas as a terrorist organization. During a one-week ceasefire that Hamas violated, Hamas released over a hundred female, child, and foreign hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinians detained in Israel. However, more than 130 hostages remain in Hamas captivity in Gaza. Hamas violated the one-week ceasefire with rocket attacks on southern Israel on Friday, December 1. In response, Israel resumed its attacks on Gaza. Benjamin Netanyahu's office stated: 'We emphasize that the Israeli government is committed to achieving the goals of the war; namely, the release of hostages, the destruction of Hamas, and ensuring that Gaza can never again threaten the people of Israel.' Meanwhile, representatives of the families of Israeli hostages in Gaza met with Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, on Thursday night, December 14, in New York, urging him to take further action to ensure their return. Israeli media described this meeting as tense, reporting that the families criticized Guterres for comments they said justified Hamas's October 7 attacks on Israel and for not having visited the country until now. According to the Times of Israel, Guterres stated during the meeting that he had made suggestions but had not received a response from the Israeli government. He expressed full solidarity with the families of the hostages and called their abduction a 'terrible crime,' but stated that he does not have the power to bring their loved ones back. U.S. consultations with Israeli officials and regional countries for another humanitarian pause in the war with Hamas continue.
