Israeli Army Gives Civilians Four Hours to Evacuate Gaza City

The Israeli army announced that its forces have besieged Gaza City, home to one-third of the 2.3 million residents of the Gaza Strip, and are prepared to soon attack the city to destroy Hamas militants. On Tuesday, November 7, the Israeli army gave civilians who had not yet left Gaza City a four-hour window, from 10 AM to 2 PM, to evacuate. Fleeing residents told Reuters that they passed by tanks that had positioned themselves for an attack on the city. They reported that Israeli tanks mostly move at night, and Israeli forces primarily rely on air and artillery strikes to clear the way for their ground advance. The Gaza Interior Ministry stated that 900,000 Palestinians remain in northern Gaza, including Gaza City, in shelters. In another report, the Gaza Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday that all bakeries in northern Gaza have ceased operations due to Israeli attacks and fuel shortages. A spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs also stated that aid delivery in Gaza is nearing a 'breaking point' without fuel shipments. Jens Laerke noted that none of the 569 aid trucks that have reached Gaza so far carried fuel. According to Reuters, there are concerns that the month-long conflict between Israel and Hamas may spread to other areas, including the West Bank and the northern border with Lebanon, where tensions have reached a high level compared to recent years. The war began when Hamas militants attacked Israel on October 6, killing 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and taking over 200 hostages to Gaza. Following this, Israel besieged the Gaza Strip, controlled by Hamas, and launched attacks on the area. Hamas claims that over ten thousand people have been killed in these attacks, with over 40 percent being children. In contrast, Israel has denied intentionally targeting Palestinian civilians in Gaza, claiming that Hamas uses civilians as human shields. The Israeli army has repeatedly stated that Hamas has dug tunnels beneath hospitals and that its militants use ambulances to move around.
